Rooky.co.uk (“Rooky”, “we”, “us”, “our”) is a UK-based website that curates entry-level IT jobs and learning resources. We are the data controller for personal data processed on this site.

  • Account & alerts: Email address, preferences (e.g. role pathway, location, frequency), and opt-in status.
  • Contact messages: Your name, email, and the content of your message.
  • Usage data: Pages viewed, clicks, approximate location (city/country) derived from IP, device/browser info (via analytics).
  • Technical: IP address and server logs (for security and reliability).
  • Optional profile data: If you choose to share CV links, portfolio links, or saved filters.

3) How we use your data

  • Provide services: Send job alerts you requested; show relevant listings and content.
  • Improve the site: Understand what pages help beginners most and fix issues.

6) Job alerts emails

If you subscribe to job alerts, we will send emails based on the frequency and categories you choose. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any alert, or manage preferences on the site (where available). We keep minimal data to respect your opt-out if you unsubscribe.

7) How long we keep data

  • Job alerts: While you remain subscribed; up to 24 months of aggregated performance logs.
  • Contact enquiries: Typically 24 months after last interaction.
  • Analytics: Typically 14 months in aggregate form.
  • Security logs: Typically 12 months unless needed longer for investigations.

8) Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We use trusted processors to help run Rooky (e.g., email delivery, analytics, hosting). These processors are bound by contracts and only process data under our instructions.

  • Email service provider (send job alerts and track deliverability)
  • Analytics provider (aggregate usage insights)

We may disclose data where required by law or to protect our rights, users, or the public.

9) International data transfers

Some processors may store data outside the UK. Where this occurs, we use appropriate safeguards such as adequacy regulations or Standard Contractual Clauses to protect your information.

11) Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data (e.g., encryption in transit, access controls, monitoring). No method is 100% secure, but we work to keep risk low and remediate quickly.

12) Children’s data

Rooky is for adults seeking employment. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided data, please contact us and we’ll delete it.

13) Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We’ll change the “Effective date” at the top and, for significant changes, we may provide an additional notice.
